GTA Online's first new heist in years is heading to the Kortz Center

Rockstar is giving GTA Online players a July art-gallery job and a free current-gen GTA 5 upgrade for eligible PS4 and Xbox One owners.

GTA Online is getting something it has not had in a very long time: a fresh heist to argue about in voice chat.

Rockstar has announced The Kortz Center Heist, a new GTA Online update coming in July. The setup is simple in the best Grand Theft Auto way. The Kortz Center sits above Pacific Bluffs, full of expensive art and rich-person security, and players are being invited to turn that into a problem.

The timing is doing a lot of work here. GTA Online has had years of updates, cars, businesses, bonus weeks, and odd little side hustles, but a new heist still hits differently. Cayo Perico landed back in December 2020. If Rockstar is calling players back for another proper score now, plenty of lapsed crews are going to notice.

What Rockstar has confirmed

The Kortz Center Heist is planned for July across PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Rockstar's announcement frames it around an art-gallery raid, with the Kortz Center becoming the target and priceless international artwork as the prize.

Rockstar also says players will prepare through a new property and art studio, then scout the gallery before choosing how to get in and get out. That sounds like familiar GTA Online heist language: setup, planning, messy execution, and at least one friend who insists the escape route is "totally fine" right before everyone explodes.

The useful caveat: the update is not live yet. Rockstar has not published the full payout structure, exact mission list, or whether this will become the new default money-maker. Treat it as a reason to reinstall or update GTA Online, not as a finished farming guide.

The free upgrade matters for returning players

There is a second piece of news tucked beside the heist. Beginning June 18, Rockstar says owners of any PS4 version of Grand Theft Auto V, plus owners of the digital Xbox One version, can upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S version at no additional cost.

That matters if GTA Online has been sitting untouched in your library since the old console generation. The current-gen version brings the nicer presentation and faster feel people expect now, and it gives returning players a cleaner landing spot before the July heist arrives.

It is also a smart bit of runway management from Rockstar. GTA 6 is the giant shadow over all of this, but GTA Online is still the live game people can actually play today. A free upgrade gets more players onto the newer console version. A heist gives them a reason to stay there for more than one login.

Should you come back now?

If you only care about the new heist, wait for July and see the full details. There is no need to grind blindly before Rockstar explains the property cost, prep requirements, and rewards.

If you own GTA 5 on PS4 or have the digital Xbox One version, the free upgrade is worth claiming now. Get the install sorted, migrate what you need to migrate, and spare yourself the launch-day download ritual. Nobody needs to watch a progress bar while the rest of the crew is already buying masks.

GTA Online has always been ridiculous, bloated, and weirdly durable. That is part of the charm. A museum heist in 2026 feels exactly like the kind of late-era chaos it needed.
